Bleeding disorders are a group of conditions in which there is a problem with the body’s blood clotting process. These disorders can lead to heavy and prolonged bleeding after an injury or bleeding may begin on its own. Some bleeding disorders are inherited and others can develop from illness or nutritional deficiency. Symptoms may include joint bleeding, excessive bruising, nosebleeds or internal bleeding. Treatment options may include plasma transfusion, platelet transfusion, factor replacement infusion and medication.
